Armenian cyber security specialist warning Internet users of new computer virus disguised as police reports
YEREVAN, August 5. /ARKA/. Samvel Martirosyan, an Armenian cyber security specialist, is warning Internet users of a new computer virus disguised as police reports.
This is a notification that a computer will be blocked for visiting porno websites with demand to pay AMD 8,500 drams (about $17.8) fine to the police’s account.
In his Facebook page, Martirosyan is warning users against transferring this money. In his words, the virus comes to Chrome.
He advises those users who don’t know how to remove Chrome extension, merely to uninstall this browser and install it again.
If such messages are received by e-mail, they should be marked as spasm. There is also a mobile version, but it is not known yet what to do with it.
The police department, reacting to the fuss over the messages, distanced itself from the messages saying it has nothing to do with them.
The police called on everybody not to pay the demanded money and to clean up all cache files or ask for specialists’ assistance. --0----
