Rostelecom presents "The ABCs of the Internet. The Republic of Armenia"

YEREVAN, November 30. /ARKA/. Rostelecom, one of the biggest telecommunications companies in Russia and Europe, has presented today a training program, called "The ABCs of the Internet. The Republic of Armenia", designed to teach senior citizens the basics of working with computers and surfing through Internet.

"The ABCs of the Internet" is a unique opportunity to teach senior citizens the basics of computer and Internet. Today it is difficult to imagine the life of each of us without these technologies and without the Internet,' Hayk Faramazyan, the CEO of GNC-ALFA, the Armenian subsidiary of Rostelecom, said at the presentation of the book at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Yerevan.

He said the company has developed a string of social projects, including provision of free Internet to schools, children’s homes and other institutions. According to him, part of these projects is designed specifically for young people.

Mark Kalinin, the head of Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Yerevan, said the "ABCs of the Internet" is an important social project that has a high demand in Armenia. According to him, the number of senior people using Internet is on the constant rise.

"We know that as people get older it is more difficult to them to acquire new knowledge. Therefore, they need help and support to be able to learn and enjoy the variety of Internet services," said Kalinin.

"The ABCs of the Internet. The Republic of Armenia" is designed to teach computer literacy to senior citizens (50+). It was developed by teachers, psychologists, gerontologists and teachers of informatics.

Rostelecom donated today 100 copies of the textbook to the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Yerevan, and another 50 copies will be donated to the National Library of Armenia.

GNC-ALFA CJSC, the Armenian subsidiary of Rostelecom, was founded in 2007. In February 2012 the company became a member of Rostelecom OJSC group of companies. Starting from December 18, 2012 GNC-ALFA CJSC has been providing telecommunication services in Armenia under the brand of “Rostelecom.” 

The network of Rostelecom Armenia is solely based on fiber-optic cable (FOC) infrastructure covering 80% of the territory of Armenia and spreading for over 3000km. It is connected to region’s main terrestrial networks and largest traffic exchange nodes as well as international channels of Iran and Georgia.
