Three Armenian journalists reach second round of Rostelecom’s 'Technologies for Life – More Opportunities' contest
YEREVAN, May 25. /ARKA/. Three Armenian journalists were selected for the second round of the fifth international journalist contest 'Technologies for Life – More Opportunities', which is being conducted by Rostelecom in cooperation with ZTE and under information support from flagship media resources.
Hayk Faramazyan, General Director of GNC-ALFA CJSC, a member of the Rostelecom Group, speaking Tuesday at a news conference, said that 'Technologies for Life – More Opportunities' is being conducted in Russia for the fifth time, while in Armenia the contest is in its second year.
The aim of the contest is to attract media resources and bloggers' attention to comprehensive and higher-quality coverage of innovative technologies and services and their application in various areas.
This year's winner will receive trip to ZTE headquarters in China.
More than 500 representatives of media resources from Russia and Armenia take part in the contest every year.
«We attach great importance to the contest, since development of journalists' skills in information and communication technologies is an important factor in provision of information about this industry's achievements to users,» Faramazyan said.
In his words, six Armenian journalists with 16 reports took part in the contest that began in November 2015.
Three of them have reached the second round. They are Anna Kashishyan with her report 'Don't Throw Potato Peelings Away' (Ararat TV Channel), Vanuhi Avaggyan with the report 'Armenia Becomes Strong Competitor on International Information Technology Platform' (Yerkir Media TV Channel) and Inna Verlinskaya with her publication 'New ArmTab and Armphone to Apper at Armenian Market Soon' (ARKA News Agency).
At the second round, the international jury will judge these pieces along with Russian journalists' reports. Winners are expected to be named in early June.
Bagrat Yengibaryan, director of the Enterprise Incubator Foundation, said in this connection that IT industry is developing fast in Armenia and it is necessary to create adequate environment in the country for that.
«It is necessary to make all achievements of technology industry comprehensible to public, and journalists play an important part in this – they can present all achievements in a popular manner and expand room for the industry,» he said.
He also said that trips to large technology countries, such as Russia and China, will expand Armenian journalists’ horizon for perception of technology innovations and will prompt new mechanisms of their presentation to public.
After the results of the first round were announced, all the participants of the contest received gifts from Rostelecom – Smartbox with a three-moth subscription, which allows to enjoy Smart television in any place with access to Internet and television.
The previous, 2014-2015 contest was won by Haykuhi Asatryan, who, along with Russian journalists, visited Huawei headquarters in Shenzhen, China. --0---
