Ucom and Nokia sign cooperation agreement to build 5G network in Armenia
YEREVAN, February 9. /ARKA/. Armenian telecom operator Ucom has signed an agreement with Nokia on modernization of its base and IP network infrastructure.
The agreement is aimed at providing modern coverage of 5G Ready services of Ucom's network and rRAN Radio Access in Armenia.
This will improve the convenience and quality of mobile communications for subscribers, ensuring the speed of data exchange and increasing bandwidth. By realizing the agreement, Ucom networks will offer a wide range of opportunities to both private and corporate subscribers.
Ucom, utilizing the latest technology from industry leader MediaKind, will provide a qualitatively new television experience, including various OTT (Over The Time media system) streaming devices, Ultra High Definition television (UHD) channels and 24/7 support.
According to Ucom CEO Ralph Yirikian, the company is announcing a new beginning for its 5G network.
"There will be a new future in telecommunications, driving development and technological competition. Ucom wants to take bold steps forward, attract investments in all directions, develop the network, and introduce 5G technology. We decided to start with the regions of Armenia," he said.
Yirikian noted that this change will provide a unique experience and quality for the company's subscribers.
"We mean not only mobile communication, but also fixed network, new TV platform, which will provide interesting and quality services to our users," he emphasized.
Ucom CEO noted that the company will try to inform subscribers in advance in cases if there will be disruptions in communication.
In his turn, Vice President for Mobile Communications of Nokia in Europe Peter Vukovic noted that the importance of the partnership between Nokia and Ucom lies in the joint work on creating a platform for digitalization of Armenia, society and business in the country and beyond. According to him, negotiations between the companies continued for 2 years.
"Today, thanks to the cooperation between us, our task is to strengthen Ucom and prepare it for 5G network and its solutions," he said.
MediaKind's Vice President of Sales for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific, Viet Nuyen Cao, in his turn, emphasized that cooperation with Ucom is important for MediaKind, as the dynamic Armenian market is the place to innovate, try out new opportunities and gain new experiences.
