Ucom launch pilot LTE network in Yerevan next year
YEREVAN, October 21. / ARKA /. Armenian Ucom telecom company will launch a pilot LTE network in Yerevan in 2015, the company director Hayk Yesayan said today.
In 2013 Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) allowed Ucom to provide mobile services. The company’s license entered into force in November 2013 and is valid until August 6, 2018.
The company paid 6.2 billion drams to obtain the license. Ucom is expected to build a mobile Internet network based on obtained frequencies.
"The pilot LTE network project will be started in 2015. Now we are installing base stations in the capital, where 60 percent of the work is already completed," said Yesayan.
He said after Yerevan, the LTE network will be extended to other areas of the country and to cover the whole of Armenia by the end of 2015.
The license obliges the company to provide broad -band Internet access in Yerevan and adjoining regions within a year. Apart from that, the company will have to ensure 80% coverage in the regions and on the main roads of the country, including Sevan, Tsakhkadzor, Jermuk, Dilijan, as well as 95% coverage on highways connecting Yerevan with these towns.
Ucom (Universal Communications) was founded in 2007. Supported by Ericsson, the company has established broad-band Internet access across the Armenian capital. The company provides Internet, IP-television and landline phone services. ($1 – 409.69 drams). –0--
