Yandex programming school opens in Gyumri
YEREVAN, October 10. /ARKA/. Yandex, a Russian multinational technology company specializing in Internet-related services and products and the Armenian Enterprises Incubator Foundation (EIF) have opened today a Yandex programming school at the Gyumri Technology Center.
Applications were submitted by 99 high school students, of whom only 27 passed successfully a test and an interview. Classes that started on October 4th will last one academic year. Students will be taught the basics of programming on the example of Python language. This is a common and fast-developing language that is used by many services, for example Yandex.Taxi, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.
The head of the international development unit at Yandex.Taxi Mushegh Sahakyan told journalists that young people in large cities have many opportunities to learn programming from an early age, but in regions it is much more difficult.
"When we opened a similar school in Vanadzor, we saw how enthusiastic the children were. It took them only a few months to learn create their first programs. I hope that our new school in Gyumri will help local high school students to master the specialty that is becoming the most popular in the world," said Sahakyan.
