Italian experts develop business-plan for digitization of armenian tv and radio broadcasting

YEREVAN, January 29. /ARKA/. Italian experts are intended to develop business-plan for digitization of Armenian TV and radio broadcasting”, said Paolo Romani, Italian Deputy Minister of Economic Development.

“This business-plan will include not only technical and technological components of the program but also economic and financial issues”, he said during the joint press-conference with Nerses Yeritzyan, Armenian Minister of Economy in Yerevan.

The process of digitization is not finalized in Italy yet. He called it a big and necessary technological revolution. “This transfer will be implemented in Europe till 2012. Last year it was implemented in USA and now China, Brazil and Japan are in this process. Italian experience will help Armenia to implement this revolution without losses of consumers’ interests”, he said.

“Four Armenian specialists will pass training on digitization of TV and radio broadcasting in large state and private Italian TV companies. Yeritzyan said that Italian experience in this sphere is considered the best in Europe. Italian specialists managed to find technological and social balance and their Armenian colleagues received consultations in this sphere.

New technologies should be convenient first of all for the citizens. “It should be clarified how much the new equipment will cost as funding of these expenses will be fully implemented by the state”, said Yeritsyan. According to the concept of introduction of digital TV and radio broadcasting in Armenia all TV and radio companies will move to digital broadcasting from 2015.

It is planned to finalize legislation till midst of July 2010 and in 2013 process of technical introduction of all market participants will be finished.

According to amendments and changes in September 2008 in the law “On TV and radio broadcasting”, Armenia provides transfer to digital broadcasting. Along with the changes, provision of licenses for TV and radio broadcasting is also reviewed. G.K. --0--
