Internet connections exceed 2 million in Armenia at the end of second quarter

YEREVAN, October 15./ARKA/. Number of connections to the Internet was 2,037,007 at the end of the second quarter, information security expert Samvel Martirosyan reports on its website.

The data is based on mobile operators’ and major Internet providers’ reports for the quarter (compared to the end of 2013), Martirosyan says.

According to the information, number of ArmenTel’s subscribers was 155,855 (reduction of 3,953) in the period, with each subscriber using 27,442 megabyte of the Internet per month on average (by 2,712 megabyte more than at the end of 2013). Apart from this, number of connections to mobile broadband Internet access was 42,114 (increase of 8,948) and average monthly traffic was 7,026 megabyte in the period (increase of 1,783 MB). A total of 301,721 mobile phones were connected to the Internet (1,859 more than in the first quarter), with average monthly traffic per subscriber of 238 MG (increase of 30 MB).

The report says VivaCell-MTS had a total of 85,024 connections to the mobile broadband Internet in the period (reduction of 15,840); the average monthly traffic was 8,793 MB (reduction of 1,291 MB). Number of mobile phones connected to the Internet was 1,005,504 (2,493 more than in the first quarter).

Number of Orange Armenia’s connections to the mobile broadband Internet was 109,345 in the period (increase of 2,699); the average monthly traffic was 14,862 MB (increase of 1,649 MB). A total of 254,319 mobile phones were connected to the Internet (a reduction of 1,731 against Q1), according to the report.


Ucom is the leader among Internet providers in terms of popularity. The number of its users was 60,849 in the period, an increase of 7,258 compared to the end of 2013. Average monthly traffic of Ucom subscribers was 57,965 MB, 3,793 more than at the end of 2013.

The next popular provider is Rostelecom with a total of 17,415 subscribers as of the end of Q2, 2014 (increase of 10,200 against the end of 2013). Average monthly traffic per subscriber was 63,109 MB (reduction of 20,013 MB).
 
Interactive had 3,302 registered users in the reporting period (increase of 956) and ADC had 1,299 subscribers (increase of 40). Number of Arminco subscribers was 260 as of the end of the second quarter (increase of 2) and the average monthly traffic was 448 MB (reduction of 1,910). –0--
